Definition
A tamper-evident log of every action an AI agent takes — what it did, when, with what outcome, and under whose identity. A new IETF draft standard defines a common format so records from any system can be chained with cryptographic hashes and independently audited. EU AI Act rules already require automatic event recording for high-risk AI systems.
Why it matters
You cannot prove an agent behaved, or investigate an incident, without trustworthy records; audit trails are the paperwork investigators, insurers and regulators will demand.
