Definition
An architecture choice where a cloud AI service is built so that data used in a feature (like an AI agent's web search) never leaves the provider's own controlled environment or gets shared with an outside third party. AWS applied this to a new Bedrock AI-agent search feature specifically to satisfy regulated customers' data-handling requirements.
Why it matters
It removes a whole category of vendor-risk review (checking a third party's data practices) for regulated companies, potentially speeding up safe AI adoption in finance, healthcare, and government.
