Definition
A European technical standard that, once cited in the EU's Official Journal, gives providers of high-risk AI systems a legally recognised shortcut to show they comply with parts of the EU AI Act. The first one, EN 18286, covers the quality-management system that AI providers must maintain.
Why it matters
Meeting a harmonised standard creates a 'presumption of conformity,' so it is the least risky compliance path for teams selling high-risk AI into Europe — a key planning detail for the board and legal teams.
