AI affiliates export-control rule (50% rule)

A US export-control rule that extends restrictions on advanced AI chips and technology to foreign subsidiaries owned 50% or more by an entity already subject to restriction. It can dramatically widen what counts as a restricted export to US-allied trading partners.
It affects global supply chains and compliance for chipmakers and cloud providers, and because it has been repeatedly suspended and extended it creates significant planning uncertainty for anyone shipping AI hardware or compute.
