Definition
The practice of assessing and controlling the risks of deploying AI models whose internal parameters are publicly available, rather than assuming 'open' is inherently safe. A rare joint Microsoft–NVIDIA framework categorises the risks and lays out enterprise controls for these deployments.
Why it matters
Open-weight models are spreading quickly into enterprise and sovereign environments, often faster than governance; without deliberate risk management, organisations silently inherit supply-chain, licensing, and misuse risks.
