A binding US presidential directive signed in June 2026 that overhauls cybersecurity rules for the systems the military and intelligence community use—collectively called National Security Systems. It re-empowers the NSA as the lead security authority for those systems and sets hard deadlines to defend them against AI-accelerated cyber threats.
Why it matters
Defence contractors, cloud providers, and technology vendors supporting US national security programmes face new, compulsory security standards and short compliance windows. Non-compliance risks loss of federal contracts and access to classified networks.
