Definition
The national government agency each EU country must designate to actually enforce the EU AI Act on the ground — investigating complaints, auditing companies, and issuing fines. Germany assigned this role to its telecoms/network regulator (Bundesnetzagentur); other member states like Italy are still finalizing who holds these powers.
Why it matters
Until a country names and funds this authority, AI Act obligations are hard to enforce locally — knowing which regulator has teeth in each market is now a practical compliance question for multinational deployers.
