Definition
A system that gives each AI agent its own unique, trackable digital identity and credentials — instead of agents sharing a generic login or a long-lived API key with humans or each other. This makes it possible to see exactly which agent did what, and to revoke one agent's access without disrupting others.
Why it matters
Without individual agent identities, a breach or malfunction in one automated process is nearly impossible to trace or contain, turning a small incident into a wide, hard-to-audit blast radius.
