What happened
Announced Oct 26, Fortinet launched the cloud-delivered FortiGuard Inline AI Security Service, bringing FortiAIGate (with technology from the Virtue AI acquisition) to existing FortiGate customers. It inspects prompts, model responses, MCP tool calls and agent actions in real time; expands DLP to 35 PII/confidential types; adds model permissions, budgets/spend limits, denial-of-wallet blocking and intelligent model routing; provides 50+ one-click compliance/governance policies, shadow-AI and agent visibility, and an option to self-host FortiAIGate on Kubernetes with NVIDIA GPUs for sovereignty.
Why it matters
It puts LLM/agent guardrails and AI cost control inline in infrastructure enterprises already run, so a large FortiGate install base can consume AI security without deploying separate tools — a meaningful move to make AI security a network-layer control rather than a point product.
Applicability
FortiGate customers considering AI-security adoption; compare cloud-delivered service vs self-hosted FortiAIGate based on sovereignty, performance and privacy requirements.
