The President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman, appointed Mutryce Agatha Williams (Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis) and Jihoon Cha (Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea) as co-chairs of the 2027 Global Dialogue on AI Governance, scheduled for 3-4 May 2027 in New York alongside the 12th Multi-Stakeholder Forum on STI for the SDGs. The appointment was announced on 16 October 2026 under GA resolution 79/325, which established the Dialogue as the UN's platform for intergovernmental AI-governance cooperation, building on the first Dialogue held in Geneva in July 2026.
This confirms the UN's ongoing intergovernmental AI-governance track heading into its second session, and signals which delegations will steer the agenda. It is a process/leadership development rather than a binding instrument, but it shapes the near-term multilateral baseline (cooperation, safety, accountability, access) that regulators and firms reference for AI governance expectations.
No direct compliance action. Organisations with cross-border AI governance exposure should monitor the Dialogue co-chairs' agenda and co-chairs' summary for framing language that may influence later national rules or voluntary commitments.
