CSA analysis: 'AI Agents — You Can't Govern What You Can't Discover'

GuidelinesLow impactGlobal
On 16 October 2026 the Cloud Security Alliance published an analysis on AI-agent discovery and IAM governance. It argues agents are a new identity class distinct from service accounts, requiring centralized agent inventory/registration, provenance and ownership, per-agent permissions, MFA/human layers on high-risk operations, logging/auditing, behavioral/contextual authentication, and blocking of unregistered agents.
Addresses the shadow-agent discovery gap that precedes agent governance — the basis for any identity/authorization control over agents. Relevant to IAM teams reworking non-human identity management for agentic AI.
Incorporate continuous agent discovery and centralized agent registration into your IAM/NHI governance roadmap.
