What happened
On 15 October 2026 the Financial Stability Board published its final report on Sound Practices for Responsible Adoption of Artificial Intelligence, setting out 12 sound practices after the June 2026 consultation. The practices cover organisation-wide AI governance (board role, risk-appetite alignment, risk-management integration, documentation, continuous learning) and AI-lifecycle risk management (materiality assessment, technology selection, data governance, explainability, performance evaluation, human oversight, AI cyber/ICT risk, third-party AI dependency risk).
Why it matters
As the global standard-setter for financial stability, FSB's finalised sound practices are expected to be adopted or referenced by national supervisors (OSFI in Canada has already issued a supportive statement), raising the de-facto governance bar for AI and agentic AI in finance and strengthening human-oversight expectations — building on concurrent US Fed/OCC/FDIC bank-exam scrutiny of AI-agent governance.
Action needed
Financial institutions should benchmark board-level AI governance, AI-lifecycle risk management and human-oversight arrangements against the 12 sound practices ahead of likely national supervisory adoption.
