What happened
The OAuth Working Group Internet-Draft 'Agent Authorization use cases and gap analysis' was updated to revision -04 on 11 October 2026 (authors M. Chen, J. Chen, J. Yao, Y. Jiang, P.C. Liu, X. Liu; China Mobile/CNNIC/Huawei). It systematically analyses emerging agent-based authorization use cases (personal digital assistants, smart home automation, agents as full proxies, enterprise business-process automation, automated security workflows), categorising them into scenarios and performing a gap analysis against OAuth 2.0 (RFC 6749) and its extensions, identifying gaps such as authorization-context, delegation-chain, and mass-revocation gaps as a basis for future OAuth agent-authorization extensions.
Why it matters
This is a recognized standards-track WG input connecting AI-agent security (identity, authorization, delegation, revocation) to the mainstream OAuth authorization framework enterprises already deploy. It signals where OAuth extensions for agentic AI are heading and is relevant to anyone implementing agent identity and permissioning (per MCP, agent frameworks, and IAM platforms).
Action needed
Security and identity architects should review the draft to anticipate future OAuth agent-authorization extensions; practitioners can submit comments to the OAuth WG to shape agent delegation and revocation requirements.
