119 MEPs press European Commission and member states to operationalise the EU AI Act 'nudifier'/intimate-imagery prohibition ahead of Dec 2, 2026 application

On 1-2 October 2026, a group of 119 MEPs (led by Green MEP Lena Schilling and Greens/EFA co-president Terry Reintke) wrote to the European Commission and member-state governments urging them to ensure the new AI Act prohibition on AI systems that generate child sexual abuse material or non-consensual intimate imagery ('nudifiers') is enforceable from its 2 December 2026 application date. The letter asks that national authorities be designated to enforce the ban, that victims know which authority to contact, and that the Digital Services Act be applied more strongly to platforms carrying such material.
2 December 2026 is the date the AI Act's two new Art. 5 prohibitions (non-consensual intimate images and CSAM) take effect with no grace period, and the end of the transitional marking period for pre-August-2026 systems for some Art. 50 obligations. The MEP letter signals enforcement-readiness pressure; AI image/video generation providers and platforms need safeguards in place by then.
Providers of generative image/video systems and deployers should verify technical safeguards preventing generation of non-consensual intimate content and CSAM before 2 December 2026, and confirm which national market-surveillance authority will enforce in each EU member state where they operate.
