What happened
On 17 September 2026, MSPAlliance announced availability of UCS 4.0, the latest version of its Unified Certification Standard for Cloud and Managed Service Providers, effective 1 July 2026. The revision adds a practical framework for governing AI-enabled services, privileged identities, and non-human identities, positioning MSPs as custodians of both human and robotic/AI identities protecting client data, devices and credentials.
Why it matters
UCS 4.0 is a certification standard, not a normative security framework, but it is one of the first industry certification schemes to bake AI-governance and non-human-identity (AI agent/service account) requirements into MSP and cloud-provider certification. For buyers of managed services this signals a growing expectation that providers can evidence AI-service governance and identity lifecycle controls during the certification process.
