What happened
Okta announced (Sept 9, 2026) a bundle of new capabilities across Okta Identity Governance and Okta Privileged Access — advanced AWS entitlement management, automated drift detection/remediation, zero standing privilege for databases/Kubernetes/network devices and workload credential vaulting — plus unified identity threat detection from its Permiso acquisition, explicitly extending governance to AI agent identities alongside human and machine identities.
Why it matters
Okta is a dominant enterprise identity vendor; treating AI agents as first-class governed identities with drift detection and ZSP closes a governance gap that has been repeatedly flagged (including by IDC/GuidePoint research this same week) as the biggest blind spot in agentic AI deployments.
Applicability
Enterprise IAM/security teams already on Okta should evaluate OIG/OPA agent-identity features now as they roll out; broadly relevant to any org deploying AI agents with access to enterprise systems.
