What happened
Lasso Security launched (Sept 2, 2026) LEAP, a transformer-free guardrail model that runs on ordinary CPUs (no GPU) and returns verdicts in under 5ms, claimed at up to thousands of times the throughput of GPU-based LLM guardrails; paired with a self-hosted 'RAPID' LLM-as-judge engine for harder policy calls. Announced alongside a $30M funding round.
Why it matters
Addresses the GPU-cost/latency bottleneck that limits enterprises to partial-traffic guardrail inspection today; if independently validated, a CPU-only detection architecture could materially lower the cost of full-coverage AI agent guardrailing at scale.
Applicability
Security teams evaluating guardrail cost/latency tradeoffs for high-volume agent traffic, especially in regulated/air-gapped environments, should pilot LEAP.
