What happened
Reported August 27, 2026: the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is investigating Singapore-based Apex Logistics (a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuehne+Nagel) over 47 shipments of Nvidia-powered AI servers (assembled by Super Micro) allegedly routed from the US through Southeast Asia and Hong Kong into mainland China in 2024, in violation of US export controls (ECCN 3A090/4A090 licensing requirements). Two former Apex employees allegedly applied false exemption codes in AES filings. This would be the first BIS enforcement action against a transportation/logistics company (rather than a manufacturer or reseller) for participation in the illegal AI-chip trade to China.
