AWS Bedrock AgentCore Payments reaches GA with spend caps, guardrails and observability

SolutionsMedium impactGlobal
AWS announced (Aug 18, 2026) general availability of Bedrock AgentCore Payments (from May preview), adding Machine Payment Protocol support and an 'upto' x402 spending-ceiling scheme alongside configurable payment limits enforced at the infrastructure layer, short-lived transaction tokens, and end-to-end audit/observability via AgentCore Observability.
Directly addresses the emerging 'agentic payments' attack surface (prompt-injection-corrupted payment decisions) flagged industry-wide this week by putting enforceable spend caps and immutable transaction logging into a production-grade managed service from a major cloud vendor.
Teams building AI agents that autonomously pay for APIs/content on AWS should adopt AgentCore Payments' guardrails now that it is GA.
