What happened
Tanium announced (Aug 4, 2026, Black Hat) a broad set of autonomous capabilities on its Atlas layer: Agentic Performance Analysis, Background AI Agents, an Atlas MCP Server exposing governed Tanium data to Claude/Copilot, new External Attack Surface Management (with Censys), Attack Path Mapping, Agent-Guided Threat Hunting, and a private-preview Google Threat Intelligence integration.
Why it matters
A major endpoint/XDR vendor is extending governed autonomous agents across detection, exposure management and remediation at scale (36M+ endpoints), while explicitly positioning agent governance itself as a differentiator.
Applicability
Existing Tanium customers should evaluate Background AI Agents and Attack Path Mapping for SOC workload reduction; MCP Server enables integration with third-party AI assistants.
