What happened
ENISA published 'ENISA's view on Cybersecurity in the Frontier AI Era' in July 2026, one of four AI-cybersecurity reports released to coincide with a conference on the supervision of secure and trustworthy AI. The report introduces cyber risk and cyber-insurance framing for frontier AI, surveys existing research/modelling approaches, and identifies research gaps, fulfilling ENISA's mandate under Article 11 of the EU Cybersecurity Act to identify research needs for both 'AI for cybersecurity' and 'securing AI.'
Why it matters
ENISA is the EU's central cybersecurity standards/guidance body; this report sets the EU research and policy agenda for frontier-AI cyber risk (including insurance/liability framing), which will likely feed into future ENISA technical guidance, NIS2 implementation guidance, and EU AI Act cybersecurity requirements.
Action needed
Review report to anticipate future ENISA technical guidance direction; cyber-insurance and risk-modelling teams should track referenced research gaps for upcoming EU guidance development
