Google Cloud launches Claude Apps Gateway for enterprise governance of Claude Code

SolutionsMedium impactGlobal
Google Cloud published (July 1, 2026) the Claude Apps Gateway, a self-hosted control plane that sits between Claude Code clients and Google Cloud, centralizing sign-in via customer identity providers, server-side enforced role-based access policy, per-user/group spend limits, and usage telemetry (OTLP) — deployable on Cloud Run or GKE.
It closes a real enterprise gap where individual developers previously held standing cloud credentials/API keys for Claude Code with no central oversight; this converts agentic-coding-tool access into a governed, identity-aware, revocable session model similar to SSO-gated SaaS access.
Platform/security teams at large enterprises standardized on Google Cloud that are rolling out Claude Code beyond small dev pilots should evaluate now, especially where credential sprawl or spend governance is a concern.
